Data gives just signals. I totally agree that our role as product managers is to understand the reasons behind this data. Relying too much on data also carries the risk of getting stuck on vanity metrics that don't actually have significant impact.
Such a scary realization! Yet eye opening. I actually immediately went back to a situation when I asked feedback from a new team member, and he was so overwhelmed by all the documents we had him read. He mentioned "why can't I just talk to people, it would be much faster and friendlier!". There we were, overcomplicating things.
On a separate note: Job shadowing is another aspect where AI can't just replace the work!
As I was writing it I kept having similar flashbacks actually. While I've always known that this "too used to pain" type of user is very real, I had never actually put this whole picture together before. I am certainly guilty of missing those signs in the past.
