Back in November 2024 I sat with Rainer Loopere and had a warm conversation that we bring you in this publication. We spoke about his views on open feedback culture, how to practice it, and the skills required for it to work successfully (spoiler alert: it won’t always work!).
Rainer described his experiences in a way that displayed a strong ability to observe the world around him. This observation also lead him, eventually, to identify mental health challenges he was facing which drove him to seek help to overcome them. This experience resulting in a set of key performance indicators that he now keeps an eye on, and they allow him to keep a pulse on how things are going at a personal health level, so can react quickly before things get off track.
He also shared a probably unpopular, but sensible take on burnout and why it happens.
In my view, great Product Managers tend to observe the world around them and read internal and external signals to manage risks or exploit opportunities. This observation skill can be applied to build a culture of feedback for growth and improvement, and to manage our own personal challenges, be them mental, physical or else. This is what Rainer seems to be doing clearly well.
Join me in this episode as he shares his tips, personal experiences and personal tools for a better self and a better working environment.
